David Karp





As a kid, David Karp, the founder of the short-form blogging platform Tumblr, taught himself to code and dropped out of high school. Karp is now 24 years old, and he runs his company with his way and he refuses to keep a schedule. In 2007, while everyone else was busy studying for exams and working, he was busy launching Tumblr, an easy-to-use blogging platform.
David Karp was born on July 6, 1986 and grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.  This entrepreneur lives in New York City. He is the son of Barbara Ackerman and Michael Karp and he attended  school , where his mother taught science ,The Calhoun School from 3rd to 8th grade, until high school when he briefly attended Bronx Science. At the age of 15 he was dropping out from school and being homeschooled.
 At 14, Karp starts interning for animation producer Fred Seibert , and went on to work as a software consultant for UrbanBaby, a New York City parenting site. He works on Tumblr in 2006 and a year after that, the site launched. Now 25, Karp is one of the internet's fastest growing startups.  LikeTwitter meets YouTube and WordPress, Tumblr lets its users curate pictures, videos and text in one place online. The site gained 75,000 users in the first fortnight, and now hosts more than 42million blogs

Tumblr was launched on April 27, 2007and it had gained around 75, 000 within two weeks of its launch. This site is available to iPhone and blackberry since it released a new version of its iOS app, Tumblr 3.0 in june 2012. Tumblr also featured its first major brand advertising campaign in conjunction with Adidas
 Tumblr has over 69.4 million blogs and more than 29.8 billion total posts on August 2012 and it continuously increase almost more than 13 billion views per months. As of July 2010, the site receives 25,000 new users each day and as of July 2012, 71.6 million posts are created on the site each day. An analysis states that Tumblr sharing had increased by 1299.5%.
The service is most popular with the teen and college-aged user segments with half of Tumblr's visitor base being under the age of 25.

Achievement

  • ·          In 2010, he was named to the MIT Technology Review TR35 as one of the top 35 innovators in the world under the age of 35.
  • ·         So far, the company has also attracted some $40 million in venture funding and he has helped hundreds and thousands of users to share their content around the globe.
